Greetings one and all!
I hope that you are all doing well
As the title of this post would suggest…..there is going to be another RUG NYC event….and…..this one’s on me
That’s right…..a free Reason/Record event
I feel bad that uncontrollable circumstances have halted me from having these more consistently……
But….I would like to throw this free event as a welcome back and hopefully as the kick-off of these events happening regularly again……

303 Grand is not renewing their lease and are allowing me to have a last RUG event there free of charge……
This will be on Tuesday March 23rd 2010 from 7pm-9pm at 303 Grand in Williamsburg

Now,……topics for this event…..
I plan on covering a number of fun, exciting, and useful things.
I have not yet had a proper Combinator workshop, so, we can count that in……
As most of you already know, through my involvement at Dubspot, I have been using other DAWs, but I have been using Reason and Record heavily thru them…….so,…..I would like to spend some time showing off some of the very powerful Rewire options and scenarios that I have encountered and their usage and application in Logic and Live….
Building on the “outside of Reason/Record world”, I have also been living with and studying many of the more popular 3rd party VST/AU plug-ins…..however,……I find myself returning to Reason’s rack time and time again and emulating the structure and sonic experience out of many of these plug-ins. We will be looking at some of my favorite VST/AU Instruments, and look at ways to reconstruct them in Reason.

As this is a free event, seating will be limited, so, if you’d like to sit, I urge you to be there a little bit before 7pm

I really hope that all of you can make it…..

I am really looking forward to this, and I promise it’s going to be a good time for all.

I am truly sorry that there has been such a gap in time since the last RUG NYC event.
I am also looking at a new location to hold these events on a monthly basis, and I think I have it narrowed down.

For those of you that haven’t been to a past RUG event at 303 Grand, the address can be found on the locations page of www.reasonusersnyc.com

If you are planning on coming, please drop me a quick note at reasonusersnyc@gmail.com, just so I can get an idea of how many guests to expect.

I am really looking forward to seeing you all again….

Event # 3 will be on Tuesday July 28th at 7pm at 303 Grand in Williamsburg

I am titling this event “Thor Synthesizer Workshop”

This workshop is designed to be an all inclusive guide to the ins and outs of synthesizer structures, signal flow, and sound design. I will be using Thor as the model but, will be teaching concepts that pertain to all synthesizer engines inside and outside of the Reason rack. I will be taking you on an in-depth tour of Thor’s oscillators, filters, signal flow, matrix patch bay, step sequencer, realtime controls and control voltage capabilities. I will also be exploring how Thor can be used to emulate classic synthesizers from days gone by, and incorporating some new “modernized” features that only the digital world can provide. In addition I will be revealing some insider programming tricks. My intention with this workshop is to leave all attendees with a firm understanding of synthesizer engines, structures, and to provide the necessary tools and concepts for editing, shaping, and designing sounds inside Thor.

The cost of this event will be $15 to help pay for the space. If you are interested in coming please send an email titled “RSVP 3″ to reasonusersnyc@gmail.com In the email please include your name and an email address that you would like me to make a PayPal request to. Once all of that is squared away, you will placed on the guest list and entered in the raffles, and given access to the drop box for questions/topics that you would like to have answered during the gathering

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know…….

I hope to see you all there!

Greetings all!

The second meeting of the the Reason Users Group of NYC will be taking place on July 1st at 7pm. It will be happening at 303 Grand in Williamsburg www.303GRANDNYC.com. It’s a much larger space than Dubspot is, so we will not be so cramped and will have some room to stretch out. We will also not have to be out of the space at the stroke of 9, so there will be bit of time to mingle and become better acquainted at the end.

The Details:

I am titling this event “The Sampling Workshop”

This is something that I have wanted to do for a very long time during my tenure with Propellerheads and Line 6, but we were always focused on driving new products and features, so this never happened. This workshop is designed to teach you all that you’ve ever wanted to know about Recycle, the Dr. Rex Loop Player, the ReDrum Drum Computer, the NN-19, the NN-XT, the ReGroove engine, and a slew of tricks related to all of these devices as well as file handling, shortcuts, and bringing digital audio into the Reason devices and sequencer. I will be conducting the event myself for the full 2 hours, and I promise it to provide very real world practical application of Reason’s sample playback/manipulation capabilities.

The cost of this event will be $15 to help pay for the space. So, if you are interested in coming please send an email to reasonusersnyc@gmail.com. Please title the email RSVP#2, and in the email include your name and the email address that you would like me to send the PayPal request to.

Once all of that is handled you will be given access to the drop-box for questions/topics that you would like answered/covered after the main event. You will also be entered in the raffles…..

I hope that you can all make it. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me…..

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

OK,….so here we go!

The first event will be at Dubspot, www.dubspot.com, on Tuesday June
2nd from 7:15-9pm

The event is titled “Malstrom&Combinator – The Sound of Science”

For this event we are lucky enough to be graced bey the presence of Kurt Kurasaki

Kurt AKA Peff , www.peff.com, is a long-time friend and a true master of Reason. Kurt is known amongst ather things as the inventor of the Rebirth Mod. He’s been working with Propellerheads since the late 90’s!….remember Rebirth? Kurt is one of the top sound programmers for Propellerheads and has designed thousands of patches for the Reason Factory Sound Bank and all kinds of Refills. You’ve no doubt used many of Kurt’s patches in your music. Kurt has also written many books on Reason. He resides in northern California and is very excited about the launch of the NYC users group and wanted to be a part of it. So, please take a minute and visit his website….. He constantly posts free Refills and custom patches and information about the Reason and electronic music communities.

For this event he will be taking us on a guided tour of Reason’s very unique and powerful Malstrom – Realtime Graintable Synthesizer. He will be showing us sound programming techniques as well as using it’s audio inputs to utilize it as an FX processor in Combinator patches. I selected this topic for Kurt because I read his book, Power Tools for Reason 3.0, a few years back. Though the book is crammed full of useful information and exercises and examples, the chapter on the Malstrom really stood out for me. Understanding it’s capabilities and being able to program it was a big area of weakness for me, but his explanation and examples made it clear and I’d like him to share this with the group. Kurt has also wanted to “up the ante” by showing how powerful Malstrom is as FX processor inside Combinator patches. This first event is guaranteed to be something special….

The second half of this event will be dedicated to attendee submitted questions, and there will also be raffles for several prizes.

So Here’s how things will work. The event will cost $15 If you are interested in coming, please send an email titled “RSVP” to reasonusersnyc@gmail.com In the email please include your name and email address From there I will send you a paypal request as I would like to keep all of this electronic. This is the way that things will need to be handled as I cannot have money exchanges at the door. Once the transaction is complete, I will send you access to the email drop-box, so you can start emailing me with questions that you would like answered in the second half of the event. You will be put on the guest list and your name will be check off as you enter the front door to Dubspot and entered into the raffles Remember,…cutoff for the drop box is 48 hours prior to the event as I do need some time to sort thru the questions……

HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!
BLIP-BLEEP

Welcome one and all to the home page of the Unofficial Official Reason Users Group of New York City. This group is dedicated to Propellerhead Reason users and enthusiasts in and around the New York City Area. This is a users group, like no other, that meets for two hours twice a month to provide users with a home, answers to their questions, and a journey into the finer points and details of music production with the world’s most popular music creation software…….Reason.

Roots/Reason for Existence

This group has been created and is conducted by Christopher Petti, former Propellerhead Product Specialist for Line 6 and known Reason guru. Chris has travelled the US demonstrating Reason for trade shows, electronic music shows/events, schools, organized retail demo tours, and his favorite, the Propellerhead Producers Conferences. Chris is an avid electronic music producer/DJ, teaches electronic music production in New York City, and has wanted to start this group/movement in his hometown for many years.

Unique

This is a very unique users group. It is designed to be custom tailored to its attendees. Once the event is announced, you can inform me that you will be attending by sending an email RSVP to reasonusersnyc@gmail.com. Then, leading up to the event, you can send questions/topics that you would like to have covered/answered at the users group that you will be attending. Cutoff is 48 hours prior to event for question/topic submission as I need some time to sort all of it out….

Each event will have a certain main topic for the first hour, such as getting vocals into Reason, making custom Combinator patches, programming Thor, etc. The second hour will be custom tailored to the attendees, opening the floor for questions and discussions. I will also be having guest appearances from other known Reason gurus….

Gathering

These events are not sponsored, hosted, or paid for by any other higher power than myself. In the past these types of events were paid for by a company or hosted by a retail location. I am not looking to push anything on anyone other than information and fun. I am starting this up out of my life-long love and dedication to music and teaching……and my love of Reason! So, in order to keep this going, I will be needing to ask for a $15 entrance donation/fee in order to pay for the space. I will be doing this through PayPal as I need to keep everything electronic. I hate to do it, but it’s the only way to keep a roof over our heads and keep this going…..

So, please take a moment to click on the link and join the Reason Users Group of New York City.

And feel free to visit from time to time to view the event topics and location calendar.

Also please visit my personal music website www.octogram-music.com
